CITY2050
City2050 is a sculptural object from the collection The New Order. The work consists of a miniature city constructed from aluminum extrusion components, encapsulated beneath a hand-blown glass dome. The object resembles an architectural model or city maquette that feels precise, controlled, and frozen in time.
Referencing the imagery of power and control, City2050 evokes the vision of a world or city reduced to scale, as if displayed on the desk of a dictator. Within The New Order, the piece draws on the aesthetics of dominance such as rigid systems, monumental thinking, and the urge to oversee and contain. By enclosing the city in glass, City2050 reflects on surveillance, ownership, and the illusion of total control, inviting viewers to question who designs our cities, who governs them, and how power is spatially imagined and enforced.
