ARTPLANT
This work is composed entirely of discarded artificial plants, collected from the waste stream of thrift stores where they are deemed unsellable due to damage or discoloration. These forgotten flowers are carefully arranged into a 17th-century–inspired bouquet, referencing the still lifes that once celebrated wealth, beauty and impermanence. The composition is placed on a bed of recycled plastic waste, primarily industrial crates, and pressed and heated into a single solid panel. What emerges is a new material and a frozen moment, where excess, nostalgia and artificial beauty collide. The piece reflects on the absurdity of Western value systems, transforming plastic waste into a contemporary memento mori.
