ReFlakt building
For the end of year celebration of Schipper Bosch, we created a series of objects and installations designed for a one night performance. The works proved so successful that Schipper Bosch decided to keep them for their new office in the ReFlakt building in Amersfoort. We adapted and further developed the pieces, making them more durable and suitable for their permanent new setting.
The installation combines several playful reflections on office culture. Large fluorescent light boxes form a miniature model of the building while illuminating the canteen. A matrix printer continuously produces the phrase “IK VERGADER DUS IK BESTA” (“I MEET, THEREFORE I AM”), only for the paper to pass directly into a shredder, creating an ever growing pile of waste.
Screens mounted on office chair bases show eight films featuring the same person attending an online meeting, performing exaggerated versions of the familiar, awkward, and often irritating behaviours of digital office life. Together, the works turn everyday office rituals into a playful and absurd installation that has found a permanent place within the new building.
